Purrs Needed

Hi. Piper here.

I'm beginning to get worried about Sushi because since we got here at my Mom's place, she hasn't been eating the way she used to and she hasn't been drinking much. I have only scooped 3 small and hard pieces of poop since Wednesday from her litter box.  I tried feeding her Fancy Feast which she would normally gorged on. I also tried giving her pieces of Greenies treats and her usual dry cat food. It seems like she lost interest on them all together. I even tried to feed her human food, anything to get her to eat. She would try to play her favorite paper ball, whap it a few times then will walk slowly away from it. She would rather sleep all day.

Will bring her to the vet on Sunday, but in the mean time, what else can I do to help her?

  1. Don't worry about her, there is no need to take her back to the vet maybe take her back to your normal house is all that is needed. When I had a treacherous journey from Portugal to Spain in the car then Spain to England in the ferry and across England in the car, which lasted 2-3 days, I didn't eat anything only maybe the odd bites. I didn't use the litter tray for all that time either but fortunately I did drink like normal. My owners too were worried but as soon as I got back to my old house and was left I got back to my normal routine!

  2. I would still take her to the vet - it's better to be sure... can you try some tuna water or strong smelling fish to tempt her into eating a bit? I'm sending my purrs.

  7. Oh, we hope Sushi gets better soon! It's very stressful to move around for us kittehs. Sometimes that stress can trigger a nasty illness... we hope that's not case.

  10. Hi Sushi! Please feel better soon! Maybe it's just the travel?

  11. Oh Sushi, so sorry to hear that. It may be more stress-related for not being at home than being sick. It might be better to take her home rather than vet because vet visit can also be very stressful. Feliway is supposed to relieve stress if you can get it quickly. I hope she feels better soon!

  15. Oh dear.......I know that lots of animals just are not happy away from home - don't eat, don't drink water, don't poop as normal, etc.....not all are like that of course because some like a change of pace, some excitement, but others just want their familiar home. I bet when you get back home Sushi will be fine. The sooner the better though because too long without proper food or water is simply NOT good and a sign that something is wrong beyond environment. If you have a vet at your Mom's that you can get to, I think YOU would feel better having her checked.

  18. Most of us kitties do not like a change in our routine. We suspect that is what is happening with Sushi. How much longer will you be away from home and her usual routine? I wouldn't run off to the vet unless she is still not eating or drinking after she is back for a day or two in her own surroundings and routine. Of course, if it appears as if she is getting dehydrated or losing weight, you will want to get her to the vet. Feel better our sweet friend Sushi. 19. Hi Sushi. Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.
Please drink as it is important to stay hydrated.
If your stools(poop) are hard, you may be constipated.
    Feel better soon!

  21. try giving her some tuna and some tuna water....and as for the pooping, if she doesn't poop soon she will have to go to the vet. Give her a teaspoon of 100% canned pumpkin NOT pumpkin pie filling but 100% pumpkin. Cody uses that when he has slow bowels. Hoping she feels better soon.

  26. Oh no. So sad to hear this. Keeping Sushi hydrated is one of the most important things you can do for her. You can try placing several new water bowls in different new places in the house. If that doesn't help, you can always feed her some water with a food syringe. Give her a big kiss from me.

    1. I thought of that already. Unfortunately, i left the syringe at home. I didn't expect this to happen. Will put the syringe on my list of things to bring next time. Lesson learned.

  28. Purrs for Sushi, we're agreeing with those who mentioned the stress of not being in her home environment. Paws crossed for her, and definitely watch for constipation. Cats can stop eating if constipated--had this with angel Annie.
