HELP Please!

Hi furiends!

How are you all? Hope all is well. I haven't been around the bloggy world for quite sometime now, though I have been quite active with my Instagram. But I only have a pawful of furiends there from the bloggy world. I miss all of you!

I was totally out of touch. I heard one very sad news when Mom and I learned about Nissy's passing. We were really sad. Nissy was such a good furiend to many of us.

Anyway, Mom decided to come back to blogging  (for now) to let me say HI and to seek help from you. You see, I haven't been eating much lately and that got Mom really worried. My weight dropped significantly. Last week, Mom decided to give me one of my favorite canned foods. I nommed it like crazy. Mom was happy that I started eating again then I threw up twice.

The night before, I chew on my keebles and spit out a tiny bit with blood on it. Mom saw it because I left it on Mom's bed.

Mom brought me to the vet last Sunday and the doctor stole my blood. I didn't even squirm and I didn't make a sound. Mom was so proud of me, but the doctor said that wasn't normal. She said cats would normally squirm and meow because of pain. Now that made Mom want to cry. She was in fact teary eyed already. I can see how sad she was last Sunday.

Results came out late in the afternoon. The doctor called Mom at home. My lymphocytes were slightly low. Normal range would be between 1.5 to 7. Mine was 1.4, but based on my body weight percentage, the lowest should be 20%, mine was 16%. The doctor said it's either there's a disease that's about to occur or there's already an existing one that my immune system is fighting.  My BUN is also slightly elevated. Normal range is 11.1, mine was 11.4. The doctor said something is not right with my kidneys. But based on the results, Mom thinks I need more water intake which the doctor also agreed. I am now taking electrolytes and multivitamins to help my immune system. Mom will bring me back to the vet this coming Sunday to let the doctor steal my blood again.

The Mom here...

I'm really worried about Sushi. She hardly eats and drinks. She lost a lot of weight. Before this happened, she was in heat. Normally she would lose weight then once it stops, her appetite goes back to normal. Last week, I had to go out of town and left me no choice but to leave her in a pet hotel. I booked her a "suite accommodation", giving her her own room where she can freely roam around and she has her own fan to keep her cool. I brought her kitty liter and toys to make her feel "at home" even just a bit until I came back for her. The doctor there said she wasn't eating her keebles much except her Greenies treats. When I brought her home, she wasn't as lively as she used too. It seems like she's trying to act normal, but I knew something wasn't right.

Do you have any experience like this? Would you mind sharing because I'm so worried about her already. We need help. Thank you!

  1. It could be lots of things. My initial thought is maybe she has a fur build up in her tummy and she thinks she is full. She needs an xray and/or an ultrasound to rule that either in or out. Purrs to that sweetie from all of us.

  4. Poor Sushi! We are not sure what it could be. Brian is right, though ... perhaps an x-ray or ultrasound will help get to the bottom of this? Hugs, purrs and prayers...

    1. Will do x-ray this Saturday. In the mean time I have to force Sushi to drink because I did some research that an elevated BUN but normal creatinine could mean dehydration. Sushi's crea is normal. Thank you for purring and praying for Sushi. - Pia

  7. We hope the vet can figure out what's making Sushi sick. Brian's advice is on target... maybe some more disgnostics to keep inside Sushi's tummy are in order?

  8. If Sushi is not getting enough water, syringing some into her several times a day may be in order, perhaps even subcutaneous fluids.

For more potential advice, you could contact the Cat Blogosphere site, and ask them to feature Sushi's plight on the site. Many, many cat-people go there and read it.

    1. Hi Dezi. The doctor said that a high BUN could mean kidney problems but Sushi's creatinine level is normal so that could mean Sushi is dehydrated. But what worries me is that she's not eating much too. Will bring her to the vet this weekend to have her follow up check up together with Brian's and the Tabbies of Trout Town's suggestions. Will add you to Sushi's IG. It's @mysassysushi

  17. Oh dear Sushi and Mom Pia......so sad that the first time we've heard from you ladies in FOREVER it's because you're not well Sushi! You don't look happy in your photo either little one. I think Brian is right - Sushi needs an ultrasound or some type of interior check to make sure there's nothing in there that shouldn't be in there - like a huge furball or something keeping her from being able to keep her food down. I know it's got to be super scary......Just keep after your vet to try and find the cause - something certainly is wrong. I lost a lot of weight and was throwing up my food a lot before I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism but that's a problem for older cats mostly and you're just a youngster Sushi! I do hope and pray that you'll be alright - and we hope that your Mom Miss Pia will keep us all posted - we miss you !!!!!

    Hugs, Sammy and Mom Pam

  21. Sushi, please consider what Brian said. You may indeed have a fur buildup in your tummy causing you to not want to eat.

Also, ask your mommy to have your furs shaved into a lion cut. THAT will keep you cool. Then, when it grown\s in, you will be ready. Please try that.

    1. I already told her vet about cutting her fur shorter. Her doctor suggested to delay it a while, but will bring her again tomorrow and insist on giving her a fur cut. A lion cut is shaved body right? Fur only on the head? Yikes! Will that grow back easily? - Pia

  22. Hi Sushi!
I miss you at Scouts and you did not meet my little brofur Einstein but I told him all about you and he wants to meet you as soon as you feel better. The suggestions from Brian, The Tabbies and all your furends sound good. Blood coming up is worrisome so a scan is needed. Hopefully it is just a bad case of fur balls and you will move them out one way or another. One thing not mentioned do you ever eat things you should not? I know we are very smart to get in Scouts but... we are kitties after all. I tend to chew a certain type of plastic bag so Dad watches those closely until they are disposed of where I cannot get them. Einstein would try and eat just about anything when he was little so Dad did a sweep of our house. He keeps our home very cat safe but even a small something can be dropped accidentally so Xray and/or Ultrasound are at the top of the list with tooth check following.
Dad is a human nurse and asks if you were stressed before the time in the pet suite? If you were and then went there you may have an ulcer? Dad and I are not sure if we get those like people do but that is something that would cause a bit of blood to come up.
We are all purring for you dear Sushi and send purrs to Mom to help with the stress we know she is feeling.
Love Purrs and Prayers from all

    1. When we put Sushi in a pet suite, she was in heat. Normally when she's in heat, she lose her appetite but immediately gains it back after. But now, it's different. Her appetite is not yet back to normal. No fur in her tummy. Her teeth are all good. Blood test will be next week, when she finished her antibiotic and I'm leaving out of town again. I will be back on Sunday. I have to leave Sushi at the pet suite again. But the doctors there know better how to handle her.

I just hope and pray Sushi goes back to normal - loves eating, playing and hyper again.
