Foodies

Hi there Moms & fur babies.  I'm Piper, Sushi's human Mom.  I'll be the one writing for now.  I need a little bit of your help.

I'm very selective of what to feed Sushi. She loves to eat and would eat anything.

Moms, I'd like to know what you feed your fur babies? What brand? If it's home made, would you share a bit of info please?

And babies, what kind of food do you prefer?

Thanks for your help!!!

Love, love, love,
Piper

  3. Hi - Sushi you are adorable, and your mom is really trying hard to get you off on a good start. Mom, you came to the right place because everyone is so very helpful here. I have had 4 cats over 50 years. I';ve always fed foods that our vet recommended. Yes, a lot of you will say that they are ;peddilng foods they have a vested interest in or sell themselves. Some of that is very true. But, our vet is right on top of the recalls and notifies us immediately if a food he sells is on that list. Lately I've been feeding Mario Royal Canin for Digestive Health because it seems to agree with him better. We've also Used Eucanaba, Iams, Science Diet and they all worked well too for any of our cats. At least I know he's getting supplements in his food - vitimans, minerafls, etc. Yes, if you make your own food, you can probably add all that. I guess I never felt confident enough to know how to do it properly. Good luck. You will get a variety of answers on here and all of them will be worthwhile suggestions. Keep us posted.

    1. Hi Mom! Thank you very much for these insightful tips. I've read in so many threads about how to make your own cat food. They said it's much healthier. Unfortunately, what they called easy to prepare was complicated for me so I was never confident too to do it properly. Plus I don't have the machines they use for grinding and mixing the ingredients. I'm feeding Sushi Taste of the Wild and a mix of (not sure if it's a local brand) Princess Cat. She loves it... Well, Sushi eats anything! I alternate the dry food with canned food. The TOTW is a bit too expensive for me (considering my own medication) although I know it's good food for cats. We don't have it in small packages and I only know one store that carries the brand. In fact, TOTW is the cheapest brand this store has for cats. Btw, this store is trusted to only sell natural and quality pet food that's why I go there. I have yet to try other brands which are being sold in the supermarket, but I'm a bit worried about their quality. Anyway, thank you very much for the tips. I really appreciate it. - Piper

    1. "We have four cats and they all like to feed, veterinary guiding us to buy a ration of quality to avoid health problems in the future, and better spend a little more with a good supply of that with veterinary and medicine. For some time we use Royal Canin but was a little heavy in the budget so we seek brands that were of the standard Premium, we too have read the composition and our comparisons between the marks, looking for the best within our budget. I hope I have helped."

I totally get you on the budget issue. I've been reading a lot about the ingredients too. There's really nothing out there that's perfect, but I guess we just have to see what works best with our beloved fur babies. yup, thanks a lot. you've given me good advice. I really appreciate it - Piper

  5. We usually buy some Japanese brands, Adan loves it. But it's hard to buy here.
    Lego can eat everything.
And, at least canny wet food once or 3 times a week, to give them extra water!

    1. I agree about the extra water. I read about that too. Haven't tried any Japanese brands cat food, haven't seen any so far. I feed Sushi dry and canned for variation. I once bought a pack of treats for kitties which was a bit pricey and Sushi wouldn't even touch it. I wish producers would give samples or sell products in small packages so Sushi can try them out. Anyway, thanks for your insight. I really appreciate it. - Piper

  6. I love Royal Canin Selective (pink and white bag) dry food. But I am kind of a picky eater with wet food and although the Human would like me to eat the high-end, low- or no-grain wet foods, I really MUCH prefer plain old Whiska's so usually that is what I get.

    1. Hi there Spitty. You're so cute. (pat...pat...) We have Whiska's here and Royal Canin too. I will let Sushi try both. I hope these brands come in small packages. I will look for that pink and white bag. Thanks for the tip, Spitty. - Piper

  7. Hi Sushi's mom, my big sis and me...two Canadian Meezers have been restricted in our food because...Kali, the older meezer has many difficulties....one is in digesting commercial catfood. Kali loves chicken and will eat anything with chick hen in it. Unfortunately there is something in this food,,,especially the chicken variety that disagrees with here. Mom and Kali spent nany a night on the bathroom floor cuddling. We have a new Stabby Guy that found out why Kali was so sick. He put us on this Hypoallergenic catfood...it is dry and is made up of soy and vitamins and minerals. We love it....tastes pretty good. I would rather have beef....I'm a meat gal myself. Every once in a while mom will get beef in broth baby food for me....boy is it good. Even if sis gets it....no big deal cause its not got the extra stuff in it. Sis will get chicken in broth occasionally too. Those are fun days. Oh yes, mom tried making our food. She got the needed vitamins and minerals to keep us healthy. We loved it the first day and then yuck...it was weird. Mom couldn't understand it but we really didn't like it the next day. Mom kept at it for a while and then she said it was too expensive to get the ingredients when it only lasted for 1 feeding. I hope that helps a bit. I really like Sushi and want her to have the best. Oh yes, the hypoallergenic food is made by Royal Canin. Scout Sushi's friend Shoko
